When nitrate treatment wins the battle against microbial reservoir souring but loses the war

چکیده
The injection of seawater into a hydrocarbon reservoir (seawater flooding), as an oil recovery method, triggers microbial souring, through which microorganisms consume sulfate ions and produce hydrogen sulfide, is hazardous, corrosive, detrimental to the environment if enters production wells. A strategy mitigate this problem add nitrate or nitrite seawater, also known treatment. This study investigates treatment in simulated real-world sector scale Danish North Sea non-isothermal multi-phase multi-component bio-chemical model field observations. common expectation that higher concentration less sulfide production. However, results show slowing down (or mitigation treatment) may cause from Put differently, not only total amount generated inside matters, but location generation zone its distance wells matter. Therefore, it possible insufficient amounts move toward Hence, more produced during lifetime reservoir. Moreover, considering laboratory measurements, presence coupled multi-physics processes, growth rates at are significantly lower than those observed experiments, under in-situ conditions, utilizing actual fluid samples.

Winning the Microbial Battle, but Not the War
An effective immune response leads to rapid elimination of infectious agents, with seemingly little long-term impairment to the host. New findings by Morais da Fonseca et al. reveal that acute infections may result in permanent disruption of tissue homeostasis and immune dysfunction, long after clearance of a pathogen.
متن کاملEffects of nitrate injection on microbial enhanced oil recovery and oilfield reservoir souring.
Column experiments were utilized to investigate the effects of nitrate injection on sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) inhibition and microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR). An indigenous microbial consortium collected from the produced water of a Brazilian offshore field was used as inoculum. The presence of 150 mg/L volatile fatty acids (VFA´s) in the injection water contributed to a high biolog...
متن کاملUsing Thermodynamics to Predict the Outcomes of Nitrate-Based Oil Reservoir Souring Control Interventions
Souring is the undesirable production of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in oil reservoirs by sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB). Souring is a common problem during secondary oil recovery via water flooding, especially when seawater with its high sulfate concentration is introduced. Nitrate injection into these oil reservoirs can prevent and remediate souring by stimulating nitrate-reducing bacteria (NRB)....
متن کاملCold war battle against hot atherosclerotic plaques.
Atherosclerotic disease develops over decades, which makes it difficult to study the temporal changes in remodeling processes during initiation, progression, and destabilization of vascular lesions. The mechanisms and current concepts of atherosclerotic plaque stabilization and destabilization in literature have mainly been based on human pathological observations. The natural history of advanc...
متن کاملThe war on cancer: have we won the battle but lost the war?
In 1971 president Richard Nixon declared a war on cancer and announced his goal to cure cancer by 1976, the bicentennial year. Thirty nine years and more than 100 billion dollars later, the cumulative adult death rate from cancer adjusted for the size and age of the population has improved by less than 5% [1]. In comparison, the death rate for heart disease over this time period has improved by...
